Steps to Earn the Silver Award
The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award a Cadette Girl Scout can earn. It is symbolic of accomplishments in Girl Scouting and community activities, as you grow and work to better your life and the lives of others.
Girls can complete the project as a group or individual, and the project can be done in or outside of Girl Scouting and reflect some aspect of community service.
The requirements of the Girl Scout Silver Award help you build skills, explore careers, gain leadership skills, and make a commitment to improving yourself. The final activity, the Girl Scout Silver Award Project can be undertaken when the other requirements are completed. The Silver Award requirements include:
STEP 1: GET READY
- Read the Go for It! The Girl Scout Silver Award insert
- Meet with troop/group advisor or Girl Scout Silver Award project advisor and develop a timeline for steps 2-4
- Make an agreement with your adult advisor
STEP 2: EARN THE GIRL SCOUT SILVER LEADERSHIP AWARD CHARM
- Earn three Girl Scout Interest Project awards related to parts of the Girl Scout Law.
- Earn charm uniquely ME! The Real Deal.
- Log 15 hours in a leadership role.
- Keep records and journal in Go for It! The Girl Scout Silver Award insert.
STEP 3: EARN THE GIRL SCOUT SILVER CAREER AWARD CHARM
- What's out there? - Learn abour various areer options.
- Who's out there? - Talk to people about their jobs.
- Earn the "Your Own Business" interest project patch.
- Keep records and journal in Go for It! The Girl Scout Silver Award insert.
STEP 4: EARN THE GIRL SCOUT SILVER 4Bs CHALLENGE AWARD CHARM
- Become: Set goal related to self-improvement.
- Belong: Earn charm for Focus Book Looking In, Reaching Out.
- Believe: Identify an issue in school or community that you feel strongly about. Find out more about it. Use your voice to address a problem.
- Build: Focus on developing a solution.
- Use Go for It! The Girl Scout Silver Award to keep records and journal for discussion and evaluation with Girl Scout Silver Award project advisor.
Note: Hours spent on the Girl Scout 4Bs Challenge can be applied to the Girl Scout Silver project hours.
STEP 5: PLAN YOUR GIRL SCOUT SILVER AWARD PROJECT
- Plan it: Keep record of time and process using Go for It! The Girl Scout Silver Award insert.
- Know more about it—research information on it.
- Choose it—brainstorm ways to solve problem, create a budget. Council must approve any money-earning or gift-in-kind plans related to project.
- Map it—create a timeline.
- Do it—put plans into action with a minimum of 40 hours.
STEP 6: THINK ABOUT IT
- Evaluate
- Submit Girl Scout Silver Award Final Report to the council office and three photos per project by March 1 for the multimedia presentation.
