Agriculture is North Carolina's number one industry, generating $62.6 billion annually for the state. The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (N.C.D.A. & C.S.) is the leading state agency for agriculture. They are charged with inspecting agricultural facilities, marketing agricultural products and running farmer's markets and research stations statewide.

Purpose

Girl Scouts can earn part of the new Home Grown in North Carolina patch by attending the State Fair or a county fair. What a fun way to earn recognition and learn about North Carolina's billion dollar agriculture business! Girls will learn about locally grown products in North Carolina by gaining a greater awareness of how the North Carolina Department of Agriculture works, including the county and state fair system. This program is fun and exciting as girls are encouraged to participate in our state system by going to local fairs and eating locally grown fruits and vegetables.

Requirements

In order to earn the Home Grown in North Carolina Patch, Girl Scouts must complete the first activity and choose three others listed in Part I of the Patch Program or attend a county or the State Fair and complete five of the requirements (including the starred activity) in Part II of Home Grown in North Carolina
