Build an aquifer, take a streamwalk, or be a wetlands detective! These are some of the many age-appropriate activities you'll find in Making a Difference, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Water Drop Patch booklet. Try the activities with a troop or group or feature them at an environmental event.
The 42-page booklet, produced by the Office of Water, contains activities for Brownie, Junior, Cadette, and Senior Girl Scouts. There is also a water issues resource list available at no cost.
Girl Scouts who participate in the Water Drop Project can receive a beautiful patch. Many links exist between the activities in the booklet and the Girl Scout program. For example, 13 Junior Girl Scout badges correspond to activities in the booklet - Eco-Action, Water Wonders, Water Fun, and Wildlife are just a few. More information about Girl Scout program links and how to order the patches is provided in the booklet.
Copies of Making a Difference are limited, so don't delay. Leaders can also call the National Service Center for Environmental Publications at 800-490-9198. Each troop leader can order one copy to use with the troop. An electronic version of the booklet can be found at the Environmental Protection Agency Web site. |
