Yarn Dolls
Home > Adults > Crafts

On a rainy day, invite your girls to spin yarns into cuddly sized dolls.

Materials

  • Skeins of yarn
  • Book

Directions

1. To form a yarn doll's body, loosely wrap yarn around a book about seventy times to create a thick hank.

2. Slip a 6-inch piece of yarn between the hank and the book spine and use it to tie the strands together. Slide the hank off the hook.

3. Create the doll's head by tightly tying another piece of yarn around the bundle an inch from the top. Add eyes and a mouth by tying contrasting yarn around single strands in the face and clipping the ends close to the knot. Next, cut the loop at the bottom of the hank.

4. For arms, pull one quarter of the strands to each side and tie them at the wrists. Trim the yarn 1/2 inch below the wrists. Then, tie a strand of yarn around the doll's waist, leaving the yarn loose to resemble a skirt. Or, make pants by dividing the strands into two bunches and tying them at the ankles.

5. For a wig, wind another hank of yarn. Tie together one end and snip the other. Feed a piece of yarn through the doll's head and use it to tie on the wig. Then, you can cut bangs, make ponytails or add a hair ribbon.
