If squiggly lines and wacky spirals strike the girl's fancy, these homemade stamps are just the ticket to sprucing up a cotton top or sweatshirt.
Materials
- Corrugated cardboard
- Pencil and ruler
- Glue
- Thick twine
- Prewashed T-shirt or sweatshirt
- Fabric paint
- Plastic dish
Directions
1. Cut the corrugated cardboard into several 3-inch squares and have your child draw a design on each one. Next, help the girls trace the design with an even line of glue.
2. Press a single strand of twine directly on top of the glue. Then, let the glue dry thoroughly so that the twine is secure before stamping.
3. Stretch the T-shirt of sweatshirt flat by fitting thin cardboard inside the shirt. Pour some fabric paint in a paper or plastic plate. Place the stamp, twine-side down, in the dish and push it around in the paint until it is evenly covered. Then, press the stamp onto the shirt, applying equal pressure on the stamp before lifting it. One coat of paint should last for two or three stampings.
4. Let the finished design air-dry before setting the color (see the manufacturer's directions) and washing and drying the shirt.
If a girl wishes to print one shape in variety of colors, she should wait for the first layer of paint to dry before applying a second stamp. |
