Welcome to the world of homemade clays and doughs. These popular recipes can be used over and over and lasts for weeks.

Edible Peanut Butter Play Dough

Materials

  • 2 cups powdered dry milk
  • 2 cups smooth peanut butter
  • 1 cup honey

Directions

1. Mix all ingredients together. Kids have fun making figures and animals out of the dough and then enjoy eating it afterward.

Basic Play Clay

Materials

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 tsp. vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • Food color (for vibrant colors, use cake decorating paste)

Directions

1. Mix the flour, water, salt, oil and cream of tartar in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until it holds together. (Keep mixing or it will stick to the bottom of the pan.)

2. When the clay is cool enough to touch, knead it on a floured surface, divide it into smaller balls and add a different shade of food color to each ball.

3. Store in an airtight container.

No-Cook Dough

Materials

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/8 cup salt
  • 3/8 cup hot water
  • Food color (for vibrant colors, use cake decorating paste)

Directions

1. Have the girls combine the flour and salt in a medium-size bowl, then pour in the hot water and stir well.

2. Knead on a lightly floured surface for at least 5 minutes, working in a few drops of food coloring.

3. The dough will keep for up to one week when refrigerated in plastic bags or containers.
